world of Biodiesel & vegetable oil Blog

Biodiesel is carbon neutral and produced from plants as the plants grow they take carbon from the air and when they have burnt they release back the same amount of carbon. Biodiesel also contains less harmful substances like heavy metals than regular diesel. Here on this website you can find lots of information about Biodiesel and its different forms. Mass production of biodiesel to start soon

Mass production of biodiesel to start soon: "Mass production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil will start this month in Ho Chi Minh City with an initial investment of around VND 9.69 billion (US $605,000).
The biodiesel production project is the first activity of Ho Chi Minh City's Waste Recycle Fund, said representative of the municipal People's Committee Huynh Thi Thu Ha.
The Saigon Petroleum Company (Saigon Petro) invested VND 8.1 billion in the project, and it expects to recover all its investment after three years. The remainder will come in loans from the State budget.
Under the project, a production system capable of turning out two tonnes of biodiesel per day from 4 to 5 tonnes of waste cooking oil will be installed at a cost of around VND 660 million in the Phu Xuong Company in Thu Duc district. The biodiesel will then be mixed with conventional diesel at a ratio of 20 to 80 to be sold in the market at a cheaper price.
Dr Nguyen Huu Luong and his colleagues from the Ho Chi Minh City Research Centre for Petrochemical and Refinery Technology, who have successfully produced biodiesel from waste cooking oil on their experiment, said that his group has reached an agreement with Saigon Petro in distributing biodiesel products to the market. BCNG Portals Page: "Expect the barbecue-tinted smell of biodiesel to waft more frequently on city streets with the pending incorporation of the Island BioDiesel Co-op.
Growing interest in the alternative fuel, coupled with limited access to it on the Island, is pushing co-op members toward larger scale production and distribution.
There are currently four biodiesel retailers in B.C. two in Vancouver, one in Port Alberni and one in Victoria. The Victoria station caters to the BC Biofleet and the fuel is not available for passenger vehicles.
With only one per cent of cars on the road running on the fuel, it is hard to convince oil companies to invest in the fuel source, said Kees Schaddelee, biodiesel consultant.
That has left those interested in using biodiesel to home brew it.
Once you have made a few batches it is pretty straight forward, Schaddelee said of the process, which is similar to soap making. "

Biodiesel resources can provide energy security

WITH THE upsurge in economic activities, India is consuming over a whopping 127 million tonnes of crude oil a year and is forced to import about 70 per cent of its needs. The current yearly consumption of diesel alone is approximately 40 million tonnes in India constituting about 40 per cent of all petro-products.
In the current scenario, exploring energy alternatives in the form of bio-fuels, namely, ethanol and biodiesel assumes top priority.
Biodiesel, derived from the plants (bearing oils) like sunflower, rapeseed, canola or Jatropha Curcas, can be used as a substitute or an additive to diesel.
Biodiesel can provide power similar to conventional diesel and thus can be used in diesel engines. Biodiesel is non-toxic and environment friendly as it produces substantially less carbon monoxide and the combustion gasescontain no sulphur dioxide and unburnt hydrocarbons. "
