Welcome to the world of Biodiesel & vegetable oil. Run your car on vegetable oil and save the ozone layer.

Biodiesel is carbon neutral and produced from plants as the plants grow they take carbon from the air and when they have burnt they release back the same amount of carbon. Biodiesel also contains less harmful substances like heavy metals than regular diesel.

Here on this website you can find lots of information about Biodiesel and its different forms. Links to interesting topics, latest News, newsgroup topics, and lots more.

RE: Fraser's Post Script (OT)
Hi folks. It is one table per time slot, two slots per day. That has been the
policy since at LEAST November 2005. So, yes, the policy was different four
years ago when Sue last ran for Council.
Two petition signature gatherers and TREEDavis are the folks who grabbed the
spots in the ten-day period that Sue's campaign wanted most.

RE: Fraser's Post Script
To clarify (hopefully just once), the DF Coop has decided to limit
tabling during this campaign period to one table per day/timeslot, first
come, first served. A CC candidate that has been a fairly constant
friend of green-ness and the Coop (Sue Greenwald) did not realize that
there was going to be a limit and tried to sign up too late because the

Hi folks. Fraser's Post Script was off topic; it also isn't very

Update on new biodiesel fueling site
Dear DBUG'ers,
I have been in touch with Blaine Juchau (owner of Arco Station at Mace) and Cambell Jones (Owner of LC Biofuels of Richmond). Both parties are interested in pursuing a biodiesel fueling site with the assistance of DBUG to help with education, outreach, and membership support. I am working to get a meeting schedule between the three of us sometime in the week of Feb. 11th after the NBB Biodiesel Conference.

Demo Day! WVO conversion options and oil filtering
Hi all,

Join us for a WVO demo day on Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 pm.
Location: Ben Pyles' Workshop, 105 Second Street, Woodland, CA

We'll look under the hoods of some veggie-oil-burning cars that have
been modified to varying degrees. We'll also get the low-down on a
filtering system that has been set up to clean WVO and share

Re: SVO Conversion Kits?
You can either use your existing fuel tank or add a second tank depending
on the kit. Kits like Lovecraft in LA use a single tank system. Adding a
second tank, usually in the trunk. allows the best of both worlds. I keep
biodiesel in the original stock tank and SVO in the second, usually heated,
tank. This way you can purge the system with biodiesel for the next

Re: SVO Conversion Kits?
They are all unique that's for sure. I have a greasecar kit on my 85 MB
300D and recommend it, I would also strongly recommend a two tank versus
single tank kit to save headaches and increase range. Newer recommendations
are to heat SVO to at least 175 degrees to avoid engine problems. My kit
never gets the oil this hot even in the Davis summers! So that is def.

Anyone have experience or knowledge about the various SVO conversion
kits on the market? How about shops that install them and do the
conversion?

One of your members reported problems with the fuel (this batch) after
filling up last week. Has anyone else experienced problems?

Re: Lobbying a local station for biodiesel
Amy and DBUGgers,
I have been paying attention to this issue for a very long time and I am glad to see you putting some energy into this effort.
A few years ago I invited the owner (Blaine Juchau) of the ARCO gas station on Mace Blvd. at I-80 to one of our Biodiesel user group meetings. He was, I believe, scared away by the paperwork requirements. I have since found some alternative solutions that may help sell him on the idea. He used to be a solar water heater installer back in the heydays of the 1980's, and so he has the right motivation. His station has an "alternative fuel island" at the back of the store next to the carwash area. It would be an ideal setup, other than being on the far side of town for me.

Lobbying a local station for biodiesel
Phil posed the idea of convincing a local gas station to provide
biodiesel, and I have been thinking about it for some time. I think it
would be a great way to get a local supply and also to introduce the
concept to local retailers, providing an example for other gas
stations to follow. I believe there are a few logistical hurdles that

Vegetable Oil Interest?
I've been driving my 1986 Mercedes 300 SDL with a single tank
Lovecraft conversion kit on waste vegetable oil since August. My
experience with vegetable oil collection has been very positive but
I've realized that once you get a good source you'll start collecting
way more oil than you can use on a daily basis. Is anyone in Davis

another user?
Hi Biodiesel users,
I have been approached by a gentleman from Woodland named Ed Doehne who
is interested in buying into the group. Some of you may remember him
from those first meetings at the Co-op way back when... I know that in
the not-so-distant past, Fraser said there might be room for another

Re: b100 like butta
Thanks Amy. I noticed that too on the Power Service bottle, but am
guessing that has more to do with not testing it on b100 or wanting to
deal with kooks like us who use the stuff.

My sense from reading the bottle is that it's just another petroleum
distillate, so it should dissolve well in the B100 and do its various

Re: New to Davis, new to Bio-D, need direction in how to go about possibly supplying bio-D
Hi John,
Thanks for posting. Recently, local people have been buying from
Golden Gate Petroleum and have been testing out other options, and
selling from at least one residential garage. I conducted some survey
research over the summer which shows there is some local demand for
more retail- but it's not incredibly compelling. There is some

Re: b100 like butta
Yes, I am also having some start-up troubles on these cold mornings. I
have not yet tested out any additives, and my sense is that they
generally don't work as well for biodiesel. But, I found this fun site
a while back where someone in the Midwest tested biodiesel mixed with
different additives in cold weather. The pics support advice I

Re: reply to Jamie
Hi All,
The 'burnveggies' forum is great place to get answers to these types of
issues.
My two cents: It sounds like a case of going back and forth between bd and
dino diesel. The jury is still out, but a number of folks have reported
fuel delivery issues with the newer ultra low sulphur (ULSD)dino diesel

b100 like butta
I just went out the front door and noticed that my entire tote has
gelled! It's only about 1/4 full with B100 from Golden Gate Petroleum
(which I think they said was from virgin soy).

It was cold yesterday and last night, but not THAT cold - and it's
already 1:30 and 58°F here.

Anyway, the tote looks like it's filled with butter! I'd send a pic,

Hi,

I have a 1987 Mercedes 300 SDL. It has 188,000 miles on it. I got it at
143,000 two years ago and I've been using B100, probably about 60%-70% of
the time.

I haven't had any problems regarding fuel until the first week of November.
The car started cutting out a little. The mechanic changed the primer pump

Re: Biodiesel this week
Dear Fraser,

As this is a potentially serious issue for all of us using B100 from
any source, and as so many fuel related problems can be mis-construed
as being caused by biodiesel, I wonder if you could please share more
explicit details on the nature of this specific "problem" reported by
a member?
